The Sandusky Transit System (STS) is announcing operational changes to its fixed route bus service that will go into effect on February 1, 2023.

The following changes will take effect on February 1, 2023:

  • The operating hours of the Green Line and Purple Line will be reduced from 6:00am-10:00pm to 6:00am-8:00pm. Both lines will continue to operate Monday-Saturday.
  • The Orange Line will be consolidated with the Yellow Line, which will run once per hour from downtown Sandusky to the BGSU-Firelands campus. Select stops on the former Orange Line will be eliminated including Hancock/Monroe, Scott, Sandusky Plaza, Erie/Cleveland, Farwell/Cleveland, and the Cleveland Rd. stops just west of Rye Beach Rd. A map of the new Yellow Line route is posted at
  • The Yellow Line will run on an Off-Season and Peak Season Schedule. During the Off-Season (November 1- April 30) the line will run Monday-Saturday from 6:30am-8:30pm. During the Peak Season (May 1- October 31), the line will run seven days per week from 6:30am-12:30am.

In 2022, STS began the process of a creating a Transit Development Plan in coordination with the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Division of Transit. This planning process included multiple public meetings, interviews with stakeholders, and an operational and financial analysis of STS’s current operations. The final report will be issued in the coming weeks and STS will begin implementing these select recommendations from the report beginning February 1. These changes are intended to increase the efficiency of STS’s operations and reduce the cost of operating the system, while having minimal impact on riders. The changes are expected to reduce operating expenses by 10%, while affecting fewer than 1% of riders.

STS completed an equity analysis and held a public meeting in early January regarding the proposed changes. The service changes have been approved by ODOT’s Division of Transit.

More information about the changes is available at STS understands the importance of public transportation and is committed to providing our riders with the best possible service.
