Sandusky Bay Pathway
2006 Bayfront Corridor Expansion Project
The City of Sandusky and the Sandusky Port Development Plan Implementation Committee (PIC) have identified the creation of a linear park along the City's central bayfront as a priority project. Under the Sandusky Port Development Plan, the Bayfront Corridor project begins at the Washington Street Pier at the East and traverses the bayfront West through the Downtown, ending at the Public Boat Ramps. This 1.7 mile area contains some of the most beautiful public access waterfront in Ohio. The walkway along extends from the Washington Street Pier to the Public Boat Ramps, providing improved public access and a unique scenic outdoor experience for our citizens and visitors. Based on an award-winning design by the firm of Kinzelman/Kline, the Corridor features:
- Attractive lighting for evening strolls
- Comfortable benches under shady trees
- Interesting historic and informational signage
- A series of focal points connected by a dommon design theme
The goal of the Bayfront Corridor development is to link these unique public spaces through the use of continuous design. This walkway will be created in phases as citizens, community groups and others step forward to support it. The City of Sandusky has committed to raise funds for the Bayfront Corridor through community giving and grant programs, rather that tax dollars. Whether you wish to sponsor a specific item or make a general contribution toward the project, your donation is an investment in the future of our community. You do make a difference.
