The purpose of the Human Relation Commission (HRC)

The Human Relations Commission was established to do everything possible to stop all practices of discrimination against individuals because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status or national origin. The Human Relations Commission is trained and empowered to mediate disputes.

The mission of the Human Relations Commission is to promote understanding and tolerance and to end all forms of discrimination based on the following non-exhaustive list of classes: age, gender, race, color, religion, culture, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, and/or socioeconomic status.

In order to achieve this mission, the HRC will:

SUPPORT: Act as a support mechanism to the citizens of Sandusky who feel as though they have been discriminated against;

INVOLVE: Actively seek involvement with the entire community as well as targeted groups to open dialogue regarding issues of intolerance and/or discrimination;

EDUCATE: Educate and provide mechanisms to learn about and celebrate the human experience and our cultural diversity.

How the HRC addresses problems:

The Commission attempts to solve problems by first listening to those with complaints. They will then investigate by talking to all parties involved and attempt to reach a solution. The parties may be brought together to talk about these problems with a specially trained mediator present who will help them reach a solution.

To make a complaint:

If you feel you have been discriminated against, you may attend a Human Relations Commission meeting or contact any member directly. The Human Relations Commission meets quarterly on the last Thursday in the months of January, April, July and October at 4:15 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room, 222 Meigs Street, Sandusky, OH 44870. The members of the Human Relations Commission are listed below.
