FAIR HOUSING

The goal of the Fair Housing Office is to enable all citizens, and prospective citizens of the City of Sandusky, to acquire and maintain equal housing accommodations. Individuals might otherwise be discouraged or prohibited from equal housing opportunities based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin.

The Fair Housing Office strives to prevent, discourage and deal with unfair housing practices stemming from prejudices that result from a prospective homeowner or tenant because they are a member of one of the aforementioned groups.

mouseEviction Packets are available in the Office of Code Enforcement & Rental Registration, 222 Meigs Street for a cost of $1.70.

Eviction hearings fall under the jurisdiction of the Sandusky Municipal Court.

WHAT IS FAIR HOUSING?

Do you know what the law has to say?

Housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, disability, or age is illegal.

The Civil Rights Act of 1866 bars all racial discrimination, private as well as public in the sale or rental of property.

The Civil Rights Act of 1968 banned discrimination on the sale, rental and leasing of housing in the U.S. because of race, color, religion, national origin and sex.

Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 banned discrimination on the sale, rental, and leasing of housing in the U.S. because of race, color, religion, national origin and sex.

The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 says it is illegal to discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, or age.

The Ohio Civil Rights Housing Law prohibits the discrimination in the sale, rental, or leasing of housing on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, handicap & age.

For assistance, contact Maryann Leone, Fair Housing Clerk, in the Department of Community Development at 419.627.5913.
