Residential Tax Abatement

What is a residential tax abatement?
A residential tax abatement is a program that reduces the amount of property tax owners pay on new construction, rehabilitation and/or major improvements.

How does this program benefit residents?
Residential property owners/developers rehabilitation or construction single, two- and three-family homes where the project costs are greater than $2,500 ($5,000 for three-family homes) can receive a tax abatement at a rate of 75% for ten years on the improved value of the home. Some projects may require building permits and jobs performed by contractors that are registered with the City of Sandusky.

How do you participate?
An easy application and documentation of your expenses is all that is needed to save on your taxes for the next ten years.  Click the link below to review the guidelines and submit the application and supporting documents when the project is complete. 
To receive the maximum number of years for abatement, the application must be submitted within 12 months of the completion date. 
*Applications received after 12 months of the project completion date will receive the number of years remaining from the first eligible tax year.
