2024 Yard Waste Pick-up ServiceSince 2004 the City has offered a yard waste pick up for a monthly fee to residents who sign up for the program. The monthly fee consists of labor, disposal and administration and is added to the water bills of participating customers.

The City of Sandusky has signed into contract with Republic Services of Sandusky, Ohio to offer City residents Yard Waste Services beginning April 1, 2024 and ending December 31, 2024. This is an optional service offered to City residents. If you are interested in signing up, please complete the application and submit it to the Customer Account office at City Hall, 240 Columbus Ave, Sandusky, Ohio from 7:00am to 5:00pm.

2024 Program Details
  • Cost: A $16.40 monthly fee for this service will be added to your water and sewer bill monthly during the time of service. Residents also have the option to pay the annual fee for the program, $147.60, all at once. 
  • Service Period: April 1st, 2024 to December 31st, 2024
  • Pick up Date: Your yard waste pick up day will be on Friday of each week. 
  • Application Deadline: New customers can sign up each month during the program period. Applications must be received by the third Friday of the month in order for service to begin the following month. 

2024 Program Rules
  • Have your yard waste at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day it is to be picked up. It’s highly recommended that it be placed at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup.
  • Your yard waste pickup day will be on FRIDAY.  
  • Make sure the yard waste container is clearly marked YARD WASTE. Please use a 20 – 35 gallon container made of plastic, metal or fiberglass with adequate handles for lifting.
  • Biodegradable bags are accepted.
  • Yard wastes that are accepted include leaves, brush, grass, garden waste, tree material/wood up to 4 inches in diameter tied and other compost material.

recyclingThe City of Sandusky offers residents, free-of-charge, a location to drop off cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and jugs, and metal cans.

The City recycling bins are located at:

DO NOT bag your recyclables. Place all recyclable items loosely within the bins. Please view the quick reference guide regarding responsible recycling.  

The following items are NOT ACCEPTED in the recycling bins:
  • Household Trash
  • Construction Debris
  • Trash or Plastic Grocery Bags
  • TVs
  • Yard Waste
  • Furniture 
  • Household Appliances
  • Mattresses
The recycling bins are serviced by Republic Services on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in the afternoon. If you find that all bins are full or the gates have been closed, do not leave recyclable items around the bins, as that is considered littering and violators may be charged. We ask that you take your recyclables with you and return to the bins at a later time to attempt to dispose of those items. The recycling area is monitored by video surveillance, and violators of illegal dumping or littering may be contacted by Sandusky Police.

City-wide cleanupThe City of Sandusky offers a City-Wide Cleanup day twice a year where City of Sandusky residents can bring various household items to be destroyed. Visit the city's calendar of events for dates and more details.

CRT (Tube TV)
  • Best Buy will accept CRT televisions 32 inches and smaller for a fee of$25.00. Nearest location is 4210 Milan Rd., Sandusky.
  • Ohio Drop o? Recycling Center accepts CRT televisions any size for$0.50 per pound. Nearest location is 533 Nelson Rd., Columbus
  • Toledo Electronics Recycling accepts CRT televisions any size for $1.00 per inch. They pick-up your electronics. Call them at 419-708-9603 to schedule a date and time.
Flat Screen TV
  • Best Buy will accept televisions 55 inches and smaller for a fee of$25.00. Nearest location is 4210 Milan Rd., Sandusky
