Commissioners

The City Commission consists of seven electors of Sandusky, elected to represent the city at large. City Commissioners are elected for terms of four years. Elections occur in odd numbered years (Ex. 2021, 2023, etc.)

The City Commission meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 5:00 pm. At these meetings, the City Commission reviews and votes on many different pieces of legislation. These can include resolutions, changes to the Codified Ordinances (Sandusky’s local laws), and approvals of contracts and expenditures of funds for large city projects.

Commissioner Dick Brady, Commission PresidentRichard BradyRichard (Dick) Brady currently serves as the President of the City Commission. He was born and raised in Sandusky, where he has been a business owner for over 35 years. A graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School, Commissioner Brady continued his education at the University of Dayton where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Commissioner Brady is the President of Brady Electric, Inc. and Brady Sign Company. In addition, he has developed and actively manages commercial and multi-family residential properties in Sandusky and Perkins Township. Commissioner Dennis E. Murray, Jr., Commission Vice PresidentDennis MurrayDennis Murray, Jr. has been a trial lawyer with the local law firm of Murray & Murray Co., L.P.A. since 1987. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University (magna cum laude) and a law degree from Georgetown University Law School (cum laude). Commissioner Murray currently serves as the Vice President of the City Commission, and previously as president from 2014-2019. He previously represented Sandusky as a City Commissioner from 2006 – 2008, serving as President in 2008. He was then elected to the Ohio House of Representatives from 2009 – 2012. Commissioner Murray and his wife, Martha, have four children and have long been proudly active with the Sandusky City Schools and the Sandusky Catholic community in various capacities. Commissioner Richard S. KoonceRichard KoonceDr. Richard Koonce is currently an administrator who serves as the college and career readiness advisor/coach for Sandusky City Schools. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1978 and is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having proudly served for five years from 1978-1983. Commissioner Koonce earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Norfolk State University (magna cum laude), a Master of Arts from Michigan State University in communication/urban studies, and a Ph.D. in communication studies from Bowling Green State University. He was elected to the Sandusky Board of Education in 2009, and served on the board until 2013. Commissioner Koonce and his wife Marion have three adult children and five grandchildren. Commissioner Jeff KrabillJeff KrabillJeff Krabill has spent a lifetime in marketing/advertising until more recently when he began restoration work on old properties in Sandusky. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology from the College of Wooster and two master’s degrees from The Ohio State University the first being from the College of Pharmacy and the second being an MBA from the College of Business. Commissioner Krabill first took office with the City Commission in 2024, having also served for nearly 18 years on the Sandusky Board of Education and 3 years on the Erie County Board of Elections. He has also served on numerous committees and boards throughout his career. Together with his late wife, Lauralee, they formed the Sandusky Education Foundation, a 501(c)3.  More recently he was involved in the founding of the Lauralee S Krabill Nursing Foundation, also a 501(c)3, which provides scholarships for students wanting to further their careers in nursing. Commissioner Krabill and Lauralee were blessed to have two great children, Jonathan and Leeanna, both graduates of Sandusky High School.  Together they have blessed Jeff and Lauralee with five grandchildren. Commissioner Steve PoggialiSteve PoggialiSteve Poggiali was born and raised in the City of Sandusky. He graduated from Sandusky High School, the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Cleveland State University with a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Design and Development. Commissioner Poggiali worked for the City of Sandusky Planning Department for 12 years and spent 17 years at Erie Regional Planning, retiring as the Director at the end of April 2021. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Lake Erie Shores and Islands, Erie County Port Authority, Erie County Mental Health and Recovery Board and the Salvation Army. Commissioner Kate L. VargoKate VargoKate Vargo, a lifelong resident of the city of Sandusky, is a graduate of Sandusky High School and holds a Bachelor's of Science in Education. Commissioner Vargo was a high school English teacher at her alma mater for 11 years before entering the private sector in 2002. She currently works as a Senior Sales Executive at Boehringer-Ingelheim. Prior to serving on the City Commission, Commissioner Vargo was a member of the Sandusky Board of Education from 2012-2021. Commissioner Vargo has two adult daughters, Taylor and Kerrigan, both graduates of Sandusky High School, and has two dogs, Griffin and Milo. Commissioner Vargo can be reached at 419.656.5490.

Commissioner Dave WaddingtonDave WaddingtonDave Waddington was born and raised in Sandusky and is a graduate of Sandusky High School. He previously served on the Sandusky City Commission from 2004 - 2011. Dave serves on the City Energy Special Improvement District Board and the Southside Steering Committee. He also organizes the city cleanup, which he has been doing for 20 years. Commissioner Waddington is retired from the Sandusky City Schools and is a current holder of a State of Ohio Stationary Steam Engineer license. He is a former World Record Holder in Power Lifting, is married and has one adult son. Commissioner Waddington can be reached at 419.271.4736.
